Hi and welcome to VW Vibe Issue 4!
And have we got another belter for you! Well this is our Busfest Special, so turn to the centre pages and you’ll find our bumper 8 page special report capturing the sights and sounds of this sensational show – the busses, the entertainment and the people behind this epic event on the dub calendar.
In fact, as the show season drops down another gear, we’ve had a chance to breath and look back over an incredible few months – the standard has been high all round this year and we’ve had an absolute ball attending many events and hooking up with everybody (and getting some amazing responses to the mag… Busfest was an especially busy one for us, so thanks for everyone who came over to say hi and pick up their copies).
But what are dub shows without the dubs? And we have found some more peaches to bring you this issue, each one with a cool story behind it. We nip across to Arizona and meet up with Janyel and Jim Share and their beautiful minty ’66 13 window Deluxe (they also own the KOA Kampground in Flagstaff from the ‘High Altitude’ report in Issue 3 by the way). Then back home in Blighty, we meet Josh Dando and Adrianne Parkhouse from Cornwall, a young couple who own a stunningly stock ’64 Beetle called Boris that is untouched (they are only the third owners)… this one isn’t even lowered people!
We also nip up to Berkshire, where engineering savant, David Marsh, decided he wanted a WW2 style Kübelwagen… so built his own… from scratch… scaled up from a toy! But trust us, this car is more than dimensionally correct; it’s ‘Dave-mensionally correct’ – check out the ‘Blitzkrieg Bucket’ on page 68 to see what we mean.
We’ve also got a super cool 70s style Fugitive Sandrail, bought as a sorry looking wreck off eBay late one night (after a few beers) to be delivered home and totally transformed. For Type 3 fans, we have a treat, with both a Hot Rod themed Fastback and awesome air-ride Square. And from Type 3’s to T3’s, we meet a man called Lanners and ‘Project Tango’ on the first installment of our custom build diary of an early air-cooled T3 (he has big plans) and we also check back in With Martin Henning and Sarah as they pick up the next leg of their trek round Asia in their Syncro TDi Transporter.
From Asia, we’re back in Europe and drop into both EBI and Bugs on Wheels in Belgium before heading back to England and the much anticipated Party Weekender in the heart of the Westcountry – ‘a new show how they used to be’… plus Reef playing live in a campsite on the edge of beautiful Cheddar Gorge… it don’t get much better than that kids!
Issue 4 has landed… enjoy!
