Hello… and welcome to VW Vibe
issue number 7
Well that’s another year done; we hope you are all suitably prepared for the new show season, there certainly promises to be a lot happening on the VW calendar for 2015 as you’ll see from our show listings page. This issue we look back at some more events from the season just gone including a checking in on some Xmas charity cruise events; we even nip along to a big all marques classic car event in Essex, the famous Grand Motorbilia – seeing as this publication embraces the whole VW scene, we like to see our classic dubs in context sometimes, alongside contemporary cars of the era, however we found a generous offerings of vintage Volkswagens to engage our interest too.
And talking of Volkswagens, both vintage and modern, we have another nice mix of vehicles as usual, including a collector in America who has not one but two beautiful Split window busses one of which is a 23 Window Delux – oh, and on the context thing again, this pair happily share a stable with a couple of beautiful old Chevys… this collection shows patina and polish. And from a pair of Splits, we have a pair of Bays too, though different owners this time; first up a magnificent mint green Mod style inspired bus with a retro themed interior, right down to a seat made from a vintage Vespa scooter! Continuing the vintage theme, we meet a couple who have had their Bay Dormobile lovingly restored, complete with a rare survivor original interior – this pair also really live the vintage lifestyle, taking the classic Dormie’ to vintage style, dance and music events around the country.
And from old buses to new; we meet a professional vehicle inspection engineer with an understandably exacting standard when it came to his own T5 bespoke camper, built to perfection by SCC in Lancashire. We also meet a lady T4 owner who’s stunning LWB camper has a modern custom Euro look to the exterior, contrasting with a riot of girly textures and colours inside; think boutique hotel room on wheels!
Aside from that little lot, our regular columnists and Culture Corner explore the wider fields of the broad galaxy that is the full VW scene lifestyle – if you like classic dubs, we’re betting you appreciate their sporty cousins too, to this end we discover a truly stunning as new ’67 Porsche 912… what’s not to love? Meanwhile Del Day, our very own A&R Man looks forward to the festival season too; though we’re not just talking VW shows but music events that are ideal for families as well. Oh talking of getting away with the family, don’t forget to check out Grant Wyness’s Tailgate Gourmet column; this month he combines his easy to follow camping recipe with a product review on the superb Frontier Stove – just the thing to get us all in the great outdoors mood again.
